Jo and Richie’s union is precisely why I got into shooting weddings – to document the fusion of cultures through love. Gurjot (nicknamed Jo) and her family are Sikh Indians, while Richie and his family are Jewish Americans. What a fantastic mix! I was curious and excited to experience how these unique cultures would blend together into a single union. They took elements of their own backgrounds into a traditional American wedding. Jo wore a stunning embroided white lehenga, with touches of vibrant red also adopted by her bridesmaids. The ceremony was timed perfectly with the sunset, and included a traditional Sikh prayer and the Jewish breaking of the glass (Mazel Tov guys!). But the most spectacular event that truly united the two cultures was on the dance floor – the guests held hands and formed spinning circles around bride and groom (typical to Jewish weddings), and flawlessly transitioned to Bollywood dance moves as the DJ changed to Indian music. The magic and fluidity of this moment was absolutely perfect, the guests embodied both cultures without skipping a beat! There has to be something to say about love and dance bringing the world together :)
