Dance-inspired session in Barcelona for multicultural couple
Hanna & Aleix
Barcelona, Spain
A romantic dance through Barcelona’s Olympic Park
When my friend Hanna, a Finnish professional dancer, asked me to photograph her and her partner in Barcelona, I knew it would be a session full of movement and meaning.
Hanna used to be my roommate when I lived in Barcelona many years ago, and we would often do dance photoshoots together. It was so special to recreate our shared history with the love of her life, Aleix.
She and her Catalan partner wanted a portrait shoot that felt like them: playful yet serious. Not just posed photos, but something that honored their connection and their cultural blend.
We chose the Olympic Park on Montjuïc hill for its expansive, architectural feel - a setting that offered both structure and freedom.
Hanna’s expressive nature as a dancer came alive in front of the camera, spinning and flowing with ease. Her partner, more grounded and stoic, offered a beautiful contrast. Their chemistry came through in the in-between moments just as much as in the dynamic ones. They both wore black tops and jeans - simple, stylish, and timeless, letting their personalities and relationship take center stage.
This shoot is a perfect example of why destination portraits can be so special. When you’re in a place you love, the setting naturally becomes part of your narrative. And when you work with a photographer who understands how to create space for both the fun and the tender, you end up with more than pretty pictures. You get a visual story that feels true to who you are.
Sessions like this one remind me why I love working with couples who are open to expressing themselves fully, especially across cultures, languages, and ways of moving through the world. There’s something so universal about love, and yet it always shows up in unique, beautiful ways.
