Guyanese American and British Sri-Lankan wedding

Alisha & Arjun

Bethpage, New York

Love knows no boundaries, and when two hearts from different corners of the world unite, it creates a celebration of cultural fusion like no other. Such was the case when a Guyanese American and British Sri Lankan couple tied the knot in the vibrant state of New York. As wedding photographers, we had the privilege of capturing the magic of Alisha and Arjun’s cross-cultural love story, and now get to share the experience with you.

Getting Ready

Alisha and Arjun met in London when she was doing a semester abroad at Arjun’s university, and crossed paths again when Arjun moved to New York. Their serendipity carved the path for their marriage, which they celebrated both in the UK and the USA. The first round of festivities in London honored his Sri Lankan traditions, while the New York event was a American style wedding infused with her Guyanese culture.

Alisha and Arjun got ready separately before meeting for their first look at the venue, the Heritage Club at Bethpaige. Everyone dressed up for the occasion, including Alisha’s adorable little dog!

First Look

Alisha and Arjun saw each other privately for the first time that day. Arjun was filled with teary eyes and joyous laughter seeing his beautiful bride! After a quick portrait session of the two of them and some bridals of Alisha, we invited the rest of their bridal party for some fun group shots.

Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony took place outside in a charming gazebo adorned with flowers and to the sounds of a live string quartet. The couple exchanged heartfelt vows and rings, promising to stand by each other through thick and thin. Guests from both sides of the globe were all smiles from the sweetness of their union.

Newlywed Portraits

After the ceremony, the guests wandered off to cocktail hour while the newlyweds did another “just married” portrait session. They decided to get their family portraits done earlier in the day so that they could be free to join their guests for some cocktails of their own!

Wedding Reception

The reception was a delightful mix of cultural performances, fun games, and heartfelt toasts. The couple's first dance reflected the melding of their two worlds, and a small taste of all the dancing to come. A professional dance group entertained their audience with their performances, and the MC did a great job animating the dance floor. He got everyone to partake in an interesting Guyanese tradition, where they all had to dance while whirling their napkins in the air. The collective energy in the room was quite palpable! If there’s one thing both their both cultures have in common, it’s a love for dancing!

This Guyanese American and British Sri Lankan wedding in New York stands as a beautiful reminder of love's ability to transcend borders and cultural differences. It showcases how embracing each other's traditions not only enriches our lives but also unites us as a global community.

In the end, love knows no boundaries or prejudices. It is a universal language that brings us all together, and this wedding served as a shining example of that truth. May this celebration of love inspire us all to embrace diversity, cherish our cultural heritage, and spread love and harmony wherever our journeys take us.
