What are Bridal portraits?

Beautiful Brides

All over the world

My wedding photography focuses on documenting the celebration of love across diverse cultures. Through my work, I am exposed to wedding nuances across religions and nations. But every once in awhile, I’ll discover a cultural trend that is unique to a specific region.

After moving to Texas, I learned that bridal portraits is a big thing in the South.

Bridal portraits are traditionally understood to be the bride photographed in her wedding dress on the big day. But why limit this once in a lifetime experience to a few images when a girl can have a whole day to get dolled up for the camera?

Bridal portraits are exactly that, a bride-to-be doing a beautiful photoshoot in her special dress. This is often scheduled on the same day as hair and makeup trials, giving the bride an opportunity to see her complete look before the actual wedding day. After all, how often does a girl get to wear her wedding dress?

I wanted to feature two of my special brides for this entry, my beautiful friend Jamie Mahood and my adorable client Orooj Harrison. Both requested a very different vibe for their bridal photos, one dark and moody, and the other bright and airy. In both sessions we opted for a very minimalistic setting so that the focus could be on the bride. However, the beauty of this type of session is the bride can choose anywhere she wants (like a fancy hotel, park, beach etc.)! Goes to show that there is no single way of making a girl’s dreams come true.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of this concept and believe every bride should treat herself to this special experience. No matter how much time one carves into the timeline, a wedding day simply goes by really fast. Trying to get the list of portraits covered becomes priority rather than indulging in each special moment and look, so bridal portraits scheduled before the big day allows for a relaxed photo session with tons of gems.

Brides also often contact me for boudoir photography. Although a very different type of pre-wedding photoshoot, both are effective at helping a woman look and feel like a queen (and make their husband extra happy by gifting him prints or an album of the images). I don’t post boudoir photography on my website to respect my clients’ privacy, but feel free to contact me for some sample work if you’re looking to get a session done.
