Grateful for friendship

Heather & Andy

Denver, CO

2024 seems to have been a transformative year for many people, it certainly has for us!

We’ve seen ourselves and the world around us change so much, which consequently affects our relationships. As we evolve into new versions of ourselves, it’s interesting to see who remains aligned with our journey.

While we may say goodbye to some people (for now), sometimes past relationships can have a new life! That was certainly the case for my dear friend Heather and I.

For those who are new here, my name is Jasna. I’m the founder of Travel Weddings and with my amazing partner Topher we document love stories around the world and in our home town of Austin, TX.

We typically travel when clients book us for a wedding or portrait session, but sometimes things miraculously line up and we get to schedule some work on our vacations. We planned a roadtrip to New Mexico to visit White Sands National Park (where we did a dreamy self-portrait photoshoot, which you can check out here).

While considering extending our trip into Colorado to visit more National Parks, I received an email from a friend I hadn’t seen or communicated with in over two decades! Heather used to model for me when I was just starting my photography career and had kept up with my work every since, and felt it would be meaningful to have me photograph her in this new chapter of her life.

Heather and her little family (her handsome partner Andy and adorable dog Milli) were literally picture perfect. Needless to say, it was definitely worth the extra drive to Denver, CO, to meet them and reconnect with an old friend.

Heather and Andy wanted photos taken at their home, where they spent most of their time forming and nurturing their relationship. On top of hiring us for the photos, they hosted us for a couple of days so we could really get a feel for their dynamic in their private space. This really helped us bond even further and facilitated real moments between them to be captured.

Heather had fully prepared for our session, flawlessly picking out matching outfits and a list of shots she was hoping for (which helped inform the vibe, even though the moments captured were organic). Even though we stayed in the same location for the entire session, we made use of multiple corners of their home so they could treasure memories lived in those spaces.

Finally, in true Colorado spirit, Heather and Andy wanted some fun photos doing their favorite activity…

It was definitely our first photoshoot of this style, but we enjoyed playing with colored lights to honor the vibe and nonstop giggles. In hindsight, this would have been much harder to pull off without a sleepover party! We’re grateful for their trust and comfort with us to allow us into such an intimate part of their life.

It was so incredibly special to reconnect with Heather, and bonding as couples with our partners. I’m grateful for our rekindled friendship, her amazing hair cutting skills, and her beauty blessing my camera once again.

Here’s what she had to say about their experience:

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jasna and her company, Travel Weddings, for many years now. Jasna first photographed me half my life ago, and I was so impressed by her talent and creativity that I decided to invite her to my home in Denver, CO to take family photos of me, my partner Andy, and our Shortie Jack Russell Terrier, Milli. The results were nothing short of extraordinary. Jasna’s photos beautifully captured the love and warmth in our home, leaving us with images that we will treasure forever. Her artistic vision and skill in capturing moments of intimacy and beauty are truly unmatched. I wholeheartedly recommend Travel Weddings to anyone looking to preserve their special moments with grace and elegance.”
